The dialogues will consider a range of thematic issues that will inform the UK’s position on: • The specific objectives of the treaty; • How the treaty can promote design and consumption patterns that lead to a reduction in the proliferation of plastic pollution; • How the treaty can catalyse more circular systems and materials • How the treaty can promote national and international cooperative measures to reduce plastic pollution; • How the treaty can extend responsibility throughout plastic’s entire lifecycle; • How the treaty can support investment into research into plastic’s potential impact on human health; • How national reporting against targets within the treaty can be measured; • How the effectiveness of the treaty can be assessed periodically; • How the treaty can promote action amongst all stakeholders, including the private sector, and promote cooperation at the global, regional, national and local levels; • How the treaty can promote research and development of sustainable, affordable, innovative and cost-efficient approaches to the plastic crisis; • How the international community can address compliance from member states; • How the Obligations, measures, and voluntary approaches in supporting the achievements of the treaty can be delivered; • How a financial mechanism to support the implementation of the treaty can be established; and • How a system of country-specific discretions can be applied to different member states to take into account their own specific circumstances. The dialogues will also consider other topics that come up in negotiations as appropriate.
June 27th 2022, UN Ocean Conference, Lisbon Portugal
We are proud to announce that we are going to be partnering with the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network to host the UK Treaty Dialogues. We can set our own team, get multiple stakeholders together, and thrash out UK's thoughts on plastics, with a Dialogue informed by what is already happening in our own country.

Working together with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Greenpeace, the Ocean Plastic Leadership Network launched the Global Plastics Treaty Dialogues (GPTD) in March 2021. This series of neutral convening engages an activist-to-industry network of stakeholders to build capacity for a global plastics treaty and its country-level implementation. By March 2022, the GPTDs have held 5 global and 10 national level convenings, connecting thousands of stakeholders across 40+ countries.
